AI & Teaching - Dr Siby Abraham

Reflections from the Other Side of the Classroom

📍 A New Kind of Teacher

What if I told you my most patient teacher never gets tired?
That my toughest questions are answered any time I ask?
That learning now moves at my pace—not the bell’s?

As a learner in this evolving world, I can feel it:
Education is being rewritten—quietly, profoundly, irreversibly.

đŸ€– The Rise of AI in Education

đŸ“±Â Duolingo CEO Luis von Ahn envisions AI as the primary instructor, and schools as places of care and connection.
🧠 Geoffrey Hinton, the Godfather of AI, believes AI tutors may soon outperform the best educators- by a factor of four.
💬 NVIDIA’s Jensen Huang sums it up: “Prompting is the new literacy.”
He’s right. The better I ask, the better AI responds.

🚀 How AI Is Already Shaping My Learning

These tools are part of my tribes’ learning:
đŸ—ŁïžÂ Duolingo Max – Conversation practice, anytime
📚 Squirrel AI – Detects and adapts to where I struggle
🧠 Khanmigo – Encourages deeper thinking
đŸ‘©â€đŸ”ŹÂ Labster – Makes science come alive
🌈 CogniAble – Supports neurodiverse learners
đŸ«Â Coursera & LinkedIn Learning – On-demand skill building
🔄 Class Companion – Helps teachers understand my progress
đŸ§©Â Century Tech – Turns lessons into exploration

They’re fast, intelligent, and deeply personalized.
But even as they accelerate how I learn, they also make me pause:

❓ What Can’t AI Teach Me?

Will AI help me find my voice—or just refine my output?
Will it guide my questions—or just deliver answers?
And when I’m lost—not in content, but in myself—will it walk beside me?

Because even the smartest system can’t:
✹ Sense the silence behind my smile
✹ Celebrate quiet victories
✹ See me—as more than a learner

🧠 What I Still Need from My Teacher

I don’t need a teacher to compete with AI.
I need a teacher to complete what AI can’t.

💬 Someone who inspires, not just explains
đŸ«¶ Someone who connects, not just corrects
đŸŒ± Someone who reminds me learning is about becoming, not just knowing

Yes, AI shapes how I learn.
But teachers shape why I learn—and who I become.

🧭 What This Future Must Remember

This isn’t about replacing teachers.
It’s about re-centering their humanity in a digital age.
Great classrooms don’t just deliver content—they transform lives.
Because while my AI tutor never tires,
only my teacher knows when I’m about to give up—
And just how to help me keep going.

💡 Let’s Not Automate That Away

Let’s not trade empathy for efficiency.
Let’s protect what only humans can give—
With compassion, intention, and awe for the act of teaching.
